Dvein to our design workshop

We are VERY proud to tell that motion graphic gurus Dvein will be main guests at our design workshop Design vs Music.

Dvein is a spanish studio of illustrators, art directors and 3D animators consisting of Fernando Dominguez Valencia, Zaragoza Teo Guillem and Carlos Pardo. Their motion graphics work is a mixture of real and imaginary worlds, both conceptually and technically. The studio started out working for Kyle Cooper (Imaginary Forces), creating titles for Spider-Man 3 and more. Its international recognition, under the name Dvein, came through the creation of jobs like Diesel Liquid Space, and the creation of credits for some of the major festivals of digital art, such as OFFF, F5 and Tocame.

Jarle Klepp is back on the scene

After their success with Mannen som elsket Yngve (“The Man who Loved Yngve”), Motlys are filming the life of Jarle Klepp once again, this time in Bergen where he’s now studying literature. One day a letter arrives from the Police which asks him to take a DNA test…

Tank created the teaser poster, badges and banners for the film festival in Haugesund where film folk and enthusiasts got a sneak preview. The film premieres in February.

Bioteknologinemnda

Bioteknologinemnda is an independent advisory organisation which considers and discusses fundamental and general questions related to biotechnology and gene technology.

Bioteknologinemnda needed a graphic identity to create a more comprehensive visual presence both online and across printed material, and a flexible visual toolkit to cover all of their communication requirements. Tank has redesigned the visual identity whilst retaining the symbol from the original logo. The symbol has been modernised, and the colours and typography have been simplified to make them more user-friendly. We expanded the identity with a toolbox containing a distinct colour palette, dynamic supporting elements and a set of supporting typography which is suitable for both web and print.

Three annual reports designed by Tank have been chosen for the forthcoming book “Graphis’ 100 Best Annual Reports 2011″. The reports cherry-picked by the jury are Rocksource, Cardinal Foods and IT Fornebu.

This year Tank has designed six annual reports, and here we’re presenting three of them: Entra Eiendom, IT Fornebu and the oil company Rocksource. Many of our clients use the annual report as one of their most important channels of communication, something which the design reflects with extensive use of photoshoots, special production techniques and non-traditional design solutions.

Design for free 2010, for Bellona

After considering many razor-sharp applicants we have finally chosen a winner. This year Tank’s annual sponsored project, “Design for free”, has been awarded to the environmental foundation Bellona, after awarding the prize to humanitarian organisations for the past two years. We congratulate the winners and look forward to working with a professional and results-oriented foundation which we strongly believe in.

Destinasjon Fornebu opens for the public on Tuesday June 8th

Destination Fornebu is an exhibition centre devoted to the new Statoil building and the beautiful surroundings at Fornebu. Here you can see what the 65,000 square metre building will look like, watch walkthrough videos of the building and get a feel for its overall scale. Using words and pictures the exhibition gives you an insight into life at Fornebu, the environment, the landscape, and a glimpse of Fornebu’s history.

Cardinal Foods website

Cardinal Foods is the second largest distributor of white meat and eggs in Norway. Tank was recruited to design their new website based on the keywords nature, farming, safety and quality.

The ideas of farming and safety are conveyed with earth-toned photographs of close-ups, nature and hands holding the products. Details from the Cardinal Foods identity are used as navigation points and highlights. A rotating slideshow on the homepage creates movement, whilst a clear menu structure makes the site easy to navigate. The website is bilingual, and was developed together with Syzweb CMS. Box for Motlys

The task: whilst at the Cannes International Film Festival the film company Motlys needed to have a little information available about their ongoing film projects. The solution: we made a metal box the size of a CD which had the Motlys logo debossed into the lid. The box was filled with cards – one for each film – with the title on the front and more detailed information about the production on the reverse. Behind the cards was a DVD of Reprise by Joachim Trier – a nice giveaway for contacts.

Mack Cider

The brief: Create a packaging design for Macks first alcoholic cider product. Cider is itself relatively unestablieshed product in Norway. Mack want to take a position as a leader in this market. Solution: The cider is made from pure, natural ingredients and the design is clean, fresh and modern. The quality of the content gets to play a key role with the transparency of the label. Colour coded top distinguish different flavors, along with the colour of the content. In addition, the back label is printed with the same colour code on the inside.

Cardinal Foods 2009 Annual Report

Cardinal Foods is the second largest distributor of white meat and eggs in Norway. Tank was recruited to design their annual report based on the keywords nature, farming, safety and quality.

We developed a visual direction based around Norwegian nature and the meeting point between products and people. The photographs have an earthy colour palette that works together with the colours of the Cardinal Foods identity. The use of close-ups, nature and hands holding the products convey the idea of farming and safety. A clean and balanced look was achieved by combining generously-spaced photography with the use of strict typography and 100% recycled paper.

Our packaging design for Halvors Tradisjonsfisk won “Næringslivsprisen” at this years Norwegian Visuelt Award in Oslo.

Mack Tradisjon

The brief: The customer wanted a packaging for a series of traditional beers of high quality. The packaging was supposed to reflect the history, culture and pride that is behind the brewing process. Solution: Mack Spesial is a recognizeable series that differs from the typical supermarket beer. The design has, as the beer itself, a touch of history and distinction that appeals to serious consumers, beerconnoseurs. The partly transparent label gives space and attention to the colour and quality of the content.

Høst website

Norsk Jordforbedring AS (Norwegian Earth Improvement Ltd.) are specialists in waste management and the conversion of by-products into products for the green sector. Tank developed the visual identity and the name “Høst – valuable waste Ltd”, and were asked to create a website to match the creative vision of the rebrand.

The visual direction references both nature and technology – it contains earthy colours, small technical details, and a flash menu based on growing roots. The concept “valuable waste” is developed with the use of illustrations and statistics. The website is currently available in two languages and will soon be available in Chinese. Tank worked with Eyego to develop the website. See more at www.valuablewaste.no.

BAR website

Tank wanted to create an identity which champions the child’s perspective, whilst also looking fresh and positive. Using the initials we hand-drew a typographic logo which focuses on compassion and the important network aspect which BAR will offer. The result was a playful yet serious logo, which also reflects diversity in the target audience when combined with the identity’s vibrant color palette.

The website needed to appeal to children and youth whilst also being accessible for public authorities and sponsors. We used hand-drawn lines with rounded corners to build up an organic and inviting visual tone. The dashed lines bring dynamism, whilst the use of consistent columns keeps the design tight. We carried the colour palette through from the identity which gives the website a colorful and friendly look, even though each individual page is tightly structured.

The Miljøfyrtårn foundation congratulates Tank on their certification

This winter Tank has worked tirelessly on various environmental measures for health and safety, the office environment, energy consumption, purchasing and use of resources, waste and emissions management, transport, and environmental accountability. We finally reached our goal and can now call ourselves a ‘Miljøfyrtårn’ (a ‘lighthouse for the environment’ in English) – a nationally certificated business run in an environmentally-friendly way with the documentation to prove it!

Dieline Award 2010 to 70N

Chicago, Fuse Conference: We recieved one of the world´s highest awards in packaging design, in the category “non-alchoholic beverage”, the water bottle 70N, Pure Arctic Water, got third price in competition with more than 800 packaging designs world wide.
– This is great fun, says Bjørn Viggo Ottem. In addition to recieving the prize, we get to meet lots of the great talents in packaging design, which is very inspiring.
– There´s an interest for Norwegian design in general over here, says Jens K Styve. – Both artists and customers are well represented at this conference, so hopefully the price will result in some international assignments.

Klimakur 2020

Norwegian greenhouse gas emissions will be considerably reduced by 2020. Klimakur 2020 (“Climate Cure 2020″ in English) have been evaluating the actions and measures required to achieve this goal. The report “Tiltak og virkemidler for å nå norske klimamål mot 2020″ (“Measures and actions to improve Norwegian climate targets by 2020″) forms the basis of a governmental review of climate policy. Tank developed the visual identity for the report, then designed the report itself. A flexible yet strict grid template was required, and the four parts of the report were given their own distinct colour. Special attention has been paid to graphs, tables and illustrations which are both well-structured and well-executed. Clear titles and the use of colour and icons help to make this weighty report more accessible.

The report contains over 60 graphs and is perhaps the heftiest editorial work Tank has ever attempted. With its 316 pages the report weighs in at 1.3 kilos.

Tank is proud to have won the competitive tender “General agreement for Graphic Design” along with four other agencies, as announced by the Norwegian Directorate for Education and Training. We have now entered a three-year contractual agreement with the Directorate, and we look forward to working with them.

Klimakur 2020 has launched

On February 17th it was finally ready – the report which explains the measures required to reduce Norwegian greenhouse gas emissions. The government group Klimakur (“ClimateCure” in English) received a lot of praise from various organisations, researchers and politicians alike. Erik Solheim, Minister for the Environment and Development, believes politicians now have a brilliant starting point for their future work in reducing Norwegian greenhouse gas emissions.

The Climate and Pollution Agency has pioneered the work, which has been completed in collaboration with the Norwegian Water Resources and Energy Directorate, the Norwegian Public Roads Administration, Statistics Norway and the Norwegian Petroleum Directorate.

Tank was responsible for the visual identity, and will deliver the 300-page long climate report in March.

Record sales for TIFF

This years Tromsø International Film Festival is over and the ticket sales passed 56.000. That means it is now the biggest film festival in Norway, and actually one of the biggest cultural events in the country.

TIFF screens challenging quality films for a local, national and international audience. Tank has had the pleasure of creating the identity for this event the last four years, below are some images of 2010, the 20th TIFF.

Mack tradition series

Brief: The total product range of Mack Breweries is too fragmented and widespread. Create a main series design including the products strongest related to the “mothership”: Mack Pilsner. Solution: We created a streamlined series of products, built on tradition and lifting up the main brand.

Over at Tank we are are very proud to have developed a new website for IT Fornebu. The portal is a focal point for businesses at Fornebu and encourages information sharing and collaboration across the different professional fields it represents. IT Fornebu’s main focus is to promote itself as Norway’s primary address for technology businesses, and the online solution allows its tenants to both promote themselves and contribute their own news articles.

The solution also includes an extensive intranet which serves the the tenants’ needs for general information, canteen ordering, booking meeting rooms, maintenance and more. Tank worked together with Eyego in developing the online solution. See more at www.itfornebu.no.

PDMT’s internal magazine

The task: The Police’s data and material services needed a fresh design for their internal magazine, The PDMT Times (PDMT-tidende). The magazine needed to arouse interest and curiosity amongst both employees and suppliers. The magazine has also been updated with the Police’s new visual identity.

The solution: Tank developed a flexible framework for The PDMT Times, giving it the rigid yet colourful and playful look it needed. The design is flexible enough for specialist content, serious articles and a variety of smaller elements. The result is a cool and inspiring internal magazine.
