The ICT Centre strives to make digital learning more effective in schools, thereby increasing the quality and value of education in general. The centre is a dynamic and future-oriented organisation, and they needed a new visual identity to reflect this. The identity works on different levels, addressing the need for breadth in their outward communication to a wide range of target audiences.

The website communicates the centre’s work and highlights the high levels of competence in the organisation. Optimal user experience was prioritised and there are many routes into the content. All content is marked with themes, target audiences and content type, and also related to projects and employees. Clean design and legible typography strengthens usability and the use of crisp, clean colour represents a modern organisation with wide-ranging appeal.

Time to quit?

Tank was asked by The Norwegian Directorate of Health to design a national quit-smoking campaign. The campaign has provoked some strong reactions with its explicit use of imagery. It consists of films and adverts in both newspapers and magazines, and huge number of web banners. Photography by Jo Michael, amongst others.

Exhibition stand for Cappelen Damm in London

BETT is the world’s leading educational technology event, where professionals can try or buy a comprehensive range of ICT products and services. Cappelen Damm Undervisning commissioned Tank to produce a concept and design for their 3×4 metre exhibition stand. We designed display walls, a TV box, furniture, decor as well as branded material and print.

Our client said: “Thank you so much for a great stand. Everyone at Cappelen Damm, not to mention many others at the exhibition, thought the stand design was very, very good. Choosing to focus on one message was also an excellent decision which worked very well.”

FUB (the Committee for Parents of Kinderdarten Children) aims to strengthen engagement from parents with kindergarten-age children by providing them with information and guidance. Tank had the pleasure of designing their first major brochure. The illustrations came from Mille, Max (both aged 5) and Markus (aged 2), donated willingly by parent/designers at Tank. This resulted in a colourful, lively report which emanates happiness whilst presenting the more serious content.

Our client said: “Our brochure about collaboration between home and kindergarten has been laid out beautifully and complements the content effectively: use of colour, children’s drawings and images indicate that this report is about children, yet it has been put together in an organised and inviting way”.

Project Manager and Designer to Tank in Tromsø

We are very proud and happy to have two of the best heads in Tromsø moving in at our office. Espen Eilertsen is a graphic designer with lots of experience, last seen working six years in Rød Tråd Reklamebyrå. Karl Kristian Hansen is a heavily educated man with lots of project managment experience from for instance Tromsø Storm and Tvibit/Tromsø Kommune.

Espen Eilertsen is born in 1977 in Tromsø, Norway. He studied graphic design at MI in Oslo.

After finishing his education Espen worked almost two years as a graphic designer at Sør-Stangeby Reklamebyrå, Arendal. Clients there were amongst others: Panoramagruppen (jeweler) and Aker Kværner. Before arriving here at Tank, he worked more than six years as a graphic designer/AD at Rød Tråd Reklamebyrå (Tromsø). He was central in the work with clients like TIL, Bukta Festival, Nordlysfestivalen, Troms Kraft and Sparebank1.

Espen has worked as a graphic designer at Tank since December 2011.

Karl Kristian Hansen

Karl Kristian Hansen is born 1972 in Tromsø and received his MA in Political Science from the University of Reading (UK) in 1999.

Karl is a former active basketball player at Tromsø Storm, where he also acted as managing director. He also worked as marketing manager in Natt&Dag Tromsø, and later as a Project Manager for a number of projects at Tvibit, part of the Municipality of Tromsø.

He also has experience as a board member from several organisations including Studenthuset Driv, Hermetikken Næringshage, Samdrift and Insomnia Festival.

Karl has worked as a project manager at Tank since December 2011.

Norwegian Polar Heroes

A lonely, fur-clad man on skis – amongst endless icebergs and frozen seas. A tent, a flag, four men in an icy wasteland. The concept of the polar hero would never have existed without photography. “Norske polarheltbilder 1888–1928″ (Images of Norwegian Polar Heroes 1888-1928) is an exhibition which focuses on how the medium of photography has had a central role in creating, staging and consolidating our perceptions of heroes and heroism.

Tank was responsible for the design of the exhibition. See the exhibition at the National Library (Nasjonalbiblioteket), online and as a travelling poster exhibition at libraries across the country, from Nobember 9th 2011 until January 28th 2012.

Wikborg Rein

Tank has designed a new visual identity from one of Norway’s largest and most international corporate law firms – their offices are in Oslo, Bergen, London, Singapore, Shanghai and Kobe. This complex and multi-faceted job has finally come to fruition through a complete visual identity programme which covers everything from logo development to a client magazine and signage programme. The website will be launched early next year, using the latest web technologies.

A Marriage

Tank has designed the poster and accompanying material for “A Marriage“, a short film by Henning Rosenlund. Geir is a Norwegian middle-aged bachelor waiting for Tina, his Russian wife to-be. Tina is young and beautiful. When she arrives in Norway, Geir is torn between happiness and anxiety. Set as an exploration of their first few weeks together, “A Marriage” tells a tale of fragile love. The film is produced by Mer Film and Jørgen Langhelle plays Geir.

National memories

Tank has created the identity, website and exhibition for Nasjonalbiblioteket’s (The National Library of Norway) latest and greatest project – Nasjonens hukommelse (translation). The exhibition consists of 100 objects from the library’s 200-year old archive, each object being voted into the exhibition online. The objects are a mixture of books, advertising, radio and TV programmes, films, photos and original manuscripts from Norwegian personalities. Will this exhibition say something about who we are? Visit the exhibition and decide for yourself – it’s open from 24th August to 22nd October.

Jarle Klepp is finally back again. We have designed the film poster and marketing material for the film “Jeg reiser alene“. Director Stian Kristiansen has created a touching and funny story, where Jarle Klepp’s student life is turned upside down when his daughter appears from out of the blue. Charlotte Isabel is the result of a one night stand seven years and nine months beforehand, as seen in the film “Mannen som elsket Yngve“. Turn me on, goddammit

Tank was responsible for both the design and marketing material for “Få meg på, for faen” (“Turn me on, goddammit” in English), a funny and frank film about teenage horniness and rebellion. The film is about 15-year old Alma, her sexual awakening and the consequences of broadcasting it to her peers. The film has already been highly praised and was awarded the prize for best screenplay at the Tribeca Film Festival this spring. Jannicke Systad Jacobsen wrote the screenplay and directed the film, with support from production company Motlys. The premiere is on the 19th of August. Read more at www.facebook.com/FaMegPaForFaen.

Utdanningsspeilet

What is the situation really like in Norwegian schools? How much does the quality of teaching vary across schools, local authorities and counties? How do we use our resources? Utdanningsspeilet is an annual publication from the Norwegian Directorate for Education and Training and reveals the state of primary education in Norway.

Tank has worked on concepts, design and illustration since December and the report has just been published. We are proud of the result – a colourful report full of data visualisations and facts about Norwegian schools. All presented in an inviting and easy-to-read way.

This year’s sponsored project will be Project Haiti

Each year Tank donates design time to an organisation which deserves it. This year’s sponsored project will be for Project Haiti, a volunteer-driven humanitarian organisation which focusses on education and training. The organisation has strong local roots and currently co-ordinates a school, a women’s network involved in a number of training projects, a youth club and a bakery.

Our work in updating their visual identity is already underway, and we hope to deliver the new identity by September 2011.

State of Europe’s Forests 2011

Norway hosted the conference for the management of Europe’s forests in June 2011, and representatives from 46 countries participated. Tank developed the visual identity for the organisation and the conference, as well as additional editorial material. The principal document for the conference was “State of Europe´s Forests 2011″, a report which outlines the current status and trends within sustainable forest management in Europe today.

We prepared a clean template which enabled us to present large amounts of information whilst also retaining an overall sense of dynamism. The 348-page report is packed with tables, maps and graphical visualisations which represent the underlying messages in the lengthy text. The identity’s colour palette was put to use to give each chapter its own identity, and conscious typographic choices both reinforce the identity and make the report inviting and easy to read.

Forest Europe

On Tuesday 14th of June His Royal Highness Crown Prince Haakon opened “FOREST EUROPE – Ministerial Conference on the Protection of Forests in Europe” in Oslo. Representatives and ministers from 46 countries gathered to ensure effective management of Europe’s forests.

Tank developed the visual identity and the majority of conference materials. The identity symbolises trees and forests, and also network-building and diversity.

Dag Solstad

The Norwegian National Library decided to mark Dag Solstad’s 70th birthday with an exhibition at their Oslo premises, and also commissioned online and and poster exhibitions in libraries all over the country. The exhibition contains books, newspapers, journals, audio clips, TV programmes and manuscripts which have never been on display before.

Tank designed the exhibition, drawing inspiration from El Lissitzky (the avant-garde Russian artist) who is in many ways the godfather of our profession. The final design consists of a strict colour palette and simple graphic shapes in dynamic compositions.

Abelia website

Abelia is NHO’s business association of knowledge-based and technology-based enterprises. To mark their 10th birthday as an organisation Abelia commissioned a new visual identity and website, asserting their position as the central source and voice for debate within Norway’s commercial knowledge base.

The colour palette and supporting graphic elements have been applied from the new visual identity to create a modern, clean and professional look. Built on a solid logical structure, the website is a semantic solution which uses themes to link together content across the whole site. This user-focused approach makes it easy to discover relevant and related content like news articles, documents and employees. Gateway pages for key target audiences are also being developed. The website was developed in collaboration with NHO and Fox Data. See more at abelia.no.

We based the logotype on a logical rhythm derived from simple geometric shapes. The colour palette signifies modernity and technology through consistent use of blue, signal yellow and grey. We re-used lines and circles from the logotype as supporting graphic elements, strengthening the idea of using individual elements to construct a whole.

The result is a simple and clear visual identity which reflects Abelia’s sobriety and professional competence.

Maria has arrived

We’ve just employed our latest designer, Maria Hammerstrøm. She was educated at Westerdals School of Communication and has previously worked at Studio 3, where she worked on projects including the typography book Hyperactivitypography from A to Z. The book was published by Die Gestalten Verlag and won gold in three competitions: Gullkalven, Årets Vakreste bøker (The Most Beautiful Books of the Year) and Visuelt 2011. Maria has just finished working at the design agency Proverb Ltd. in Boston, USA.

IT Fornebu annual report 2010

This is the third year Tank has designed IT Fornebu’s annual report. It’s a comprehensive 80-page report which makes use of advanced printing techniques like block foiling, two kinds of paper, a UV varnish and cut-outs. The result is an attractive and elegant report with poetic winter photography from Espen Gees.
